Pilot 'Gewoon Gaaf' at ROC van Twente great success

Scientific research in the Netherlands (Dr. Erik Vermaire 2013) shows that working according to the 'Gewoon Gaaf' method can lead to about 70% caries reduction. The Ivoren Cross has been providing Gewoon Gaaf courses since 2014. About 2000 Gewoon Gaaf-certified dental care professionals now work according to this method.

Sanne Aarninkhof, teacher at the ROC is one of these Gewoon Gaaf certified: 'During my studies I heard a lot about the Gewoon Gaaf method, but by following the course I got the right tools, how to better guide parents with their children . It is of great value that students learn more about working according to Gewoon Gaaf during their studies, become familiar with the step-by-step plans and learn ways to bring about behavioral change. A morning course focusing on Gewoon Gaaf will help the students with this.'

On March 13 and 20, one of the teachers of the Ivoren Cross gave the morning lesson 'Gewoon Gaaf with Motivational Interviewing' at the ROC van Twente to second and third year students of the dental assistant course. Besides the theory about Gewoon Gaaf, case studies were used to train how to assess risks and how to guide children with their parents towards a 'Gewoon Gaaf set of teeth'.

Students have an edge

After the enthusiastic reactions of students and teachers of the ROC van Twente, the Ivoren Cross also wants to offer the course to other (ROC) educational institutions. If students end up in a dental care practice after their studies where the method is used, they will benefit greatly from their Gewoon Gaaf certificate. As a non-profit organization, Ivoren Kruis offers the course at cost price to these educational institutions. For more information and a cost estimate, please contact us education@ivorenkruis.nl.
