Jur van Latum was appointed as a new board member with the 'student committee' portfolio during the AGM of Ivoren Kruis on December 11, 2023. Jur briefly introduced himself to those present during the AGM of December 11. He answers the seven questions below to get to know him in more detail:

  1. You have the 'student committee' portfolio but you are not a student yourself, what about that?

Funny you ask! This may seem a bit strange at first glance. When I ended up on the student committee of the Ivory Cross, I was actually no longer a student. That is also why, after 2 years, I have indicated that the student committee is no longer the place for me, but that I would like to provide support where necessary. In my new role as board member with the 'student committee' portfolio, I can do this optimally. The advantage is that I know the student committee well and know where there are areas for improvement.

  1. You don't work in dental care, but you ended up with us, how did that go?

My passion for a healthy mouth does not come from nowhere. With a father as a dental technician, the passion and connection with the mouth and teeth was established early. As a boy of thirteen, I started in the plaster department of my father's dental lab washing dishes, later I ended up at the CAD-CAM. This is how I slowly but surely grew into the company.

  1. Then I am very curious about which study you did and what the link with the student committee was?

I did the HBO master 'design driven innovation'. The intervention for my graduation project “A healthy mouth is cool!”

  1. What do you want to achieve in the next 4 years?

I want to give the student committee the structure and potential to actually contribute to the association.

  1. That sounds nice, but what exactly do you mean?

-Working on structure and a clear division of roles

-Appointing a student chairman so that the committee is returned to the students

-Improve current projects and/or give them a new look

- Recruiting new student members and trying to retain (ex) student members

-Setting up your own projects within the student committee

  1. And what do you think you can achieve within the board?

There I will mainly focus on marketing and communications. I will also work to attract new members and retain (former) student members. So that we as Ivory Cross can continue to conduct research in order to gradually eradicate the disease caries from the world, and not to forget to continue to provide everyone with the correct information in the field of oral care.

  1. Do you also have a personal goal?

Yes, certainly, I would like to think about the future of our association. I will do this by building a bridge between the board and the student committee and by providing input on an administrative level. Naturally, I also hope to gain managerial experience. I think it is a unique opportunity to learn from other board members and thus work on my skills. To me, contributing to a healthier society in this way is the best thing there is.
