Gewoon Gaaf is a caries prevention method for every individual child from 0 to 18 years and his parents/carers. The prevention method allows parent and child to see what their own influence is on the development and especially the prevention of caries. If you brush your teeth well and have a sensible consumption pattern, you can keep your teeth intact!

from Research in the Netherlands (Dr Erik Vermaire 2013) it appears that the Gewoon Gaaf method can lead to 70% fewer cavities.

Individual caries prevention
Gewoon Gaaf is a prevention method for every individual child from 0 to 18 years and his parents/carers. The dentist or dental hygienist gives the parent and the child advice that is tailored to the child's teeth. He guides the child to have and keep healthy teeth. With Gewoon Gaaf, the dentist or dental hygienist makes a risk assessment. How well does the parent and the child take care of the child's teeth? How is his oral hygiene? Are teeth or molars breaking through? Is the child switching? Does he have (starting) cavities in his teeth? Based on this risk assessment, the dentist determines the moment at which he wants to see the (parent of) the child again in the oral care practice. Sometimes he will protect the molars extra (sealing) or give them a fluoride treatment. But usually those treatments are not necessary. The interpretation and implementation of the prevention method can therefore differ within a family. After all, Gewoon Gaaf looks at every individual.

Brushing and brushing your teeth
A healthy mouth starts with the correct brushing of the teeth and molars with fluoride toothpaste. Gewoon Gaaf oral care providers coach their patients in this. Children usually want to brush their teeth themselves from a very young age. That's fine. Above all, encourage that. But children do not yet brush equally well everywhere. That's why help is needed! Brushing your teeth well does not happen automatically, a child has to learn that. Children up to about 10 years old don't really clean their teeth yet. We therefore advise you to brush the teeth and molars of children up to that age at least once a day, even if electric brushing is used. By brushing, parents also make it clear how important this daily care is. This makes brushing your teeth a good habit. Even after the tenth year, it remains important that parents and oral care providers supervise and monitor the brushing of their teeth.

The Gewoon Gaaf method helps children to keep their teeth intact. Under the supervision of the oral care provider, parents and their child can keep their teeth healthy and their mouths healthy. Gewoon Gaaf! Are you in?
