Advice for maintaining a healthy mouth
To keep the mouth healthy, the Advisory Board for the Prevention of Oral and Dental Diseases of the Ivoren Cross draws up recommendations. This describes substantive aspects of the information and preventive actions. The Ivory Cross promotes the application of these recommendations by dentists, dental hygienists and other healthcare providers.

The formation of advice
Numerous recommendations and guidelines apply to dental prevention. Nowadays, 'evidence-based' advice is being sought, ie according to certain scientific criteria. Nevertheless, the results of scientific research are not always easy to translate into everyday practice or scientific data are not always available. That is why there are also recommendations that are based on consensus from science and practice. The Advisory Board of the Ivory Cross has translated the current, up-to-date insights into advice for the healthcare provider.

The starting point is that advice is based on evidence. A distinction can be made between A, B and C recommendations.
A advice: based on randomized and controlled clinical research focused on the specific recommendation and appropriate to the knowledge on the subject.
B advice: based on well-conducted clinical research and appropriate to the knowledge on the subject, but no randomized controlled clinical trials available on the subject of recommendation
C advice: based on evidence from relevant laboratory studies, reports from expert committees or on opinions and/or clinical experience of respected authorities.
