Good news! Fluoride toothpaste has been included in the new WHO list of essential medicines.

Caries (tooth decay) is the most common non-communicable disease, both worldwide and in Europe. Fluoride toothpaste has been proven to significantly reduce the incidence of dental caries and this recognition by the WHO is essential to reducing the incidence of disease.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has published the latest (22nd) version of its biennial Essential Medicines List (EML). Although there are many more medicines on the market, according to the WHO, this list reflects those that offer the best value for money, based on evidence of health effects.
