About Ivory Cross
What we do
The Ivory Cross
The Ivory Cross, the Dutch Association for Oral Health, was founded on March 1, 1910, and has been a leading force in the fight for oral health ever since. For over 115 years, the association has been committed to preventing oral diseases and improving overall oral health. Two conditions are central to this:
- caries, the disease that causes tooth decay and is recognized as the most common non-communicable disease worldwide, and
- periodontitis, which leads to gum inflammation and serious complications, such as tooth loss, poorer blood sugar control, or endocarditis.
What makes the Ivory Cross unique is its dual role. On the one hand, it serves as a patient organization for all Dutch people, regardless of whether they are already affected by oral diseases or are at risk. On the other hand, it is a scientific association for oral care professionals who make a crucial contribution to prevention and treatment.
This combination helps us develop the information we provide about oral diseases, for example in our patient brochures, based on scientific evidence. This information also allows us to reach target groups, such as primary schools (with projects like "Keep your mouth healthy!"), the media, and politicians. It also actively stimulates scientific research, policy development, and network building.
The commitment of members, donors, and partners makes these efforts possible and supports the ambition to reach even greater audiences. With prevention as a priority, the Ivoren Kruis lays the foundation for long-term improvement in oral health.

Cooperation
In order to guarantee the activities of the Ivory Cross in the future, the Ivory Cross works together with the Royal Dutch Society for the Advancement of Dentistry (KNMT), the Dutch Association of Dental Hygienists (NVM) and with partners in the business community. Ivory Cross partners sell products that promote oral health or contribute to improving oral health in other ways.
