Ivoren Kruis publishes new advice Dry mouth

04-01-2018

The Ivory Cross has developed updated Dry Mouth advice. The new document was introduced last November 18 during the association's annual scientific conference. The publication provides practical advice for practitioners of patients with dry mouth.

Many conditions can be the cause of insufficient saliva and chronic dry mouth. Because decreased saliva secretion can have catastrophic consequences for teeth, oral health and perceived quality of life, it is the responsibility of the dentist and dental hygienist to recognize dry mouth in a timely manner, preferably before oral health deteriorates.

The Dry Mouth advice contains substantive aspects of the management of the patient with a dry mouth, the information, prevention and treatments that healthcare provider(s) can only provide with the patient's help. It indicates when dry mouth examination is indicated and how that examination can be performed.

The advice was drawn up by the Advisory Board for the Prevention of Oral and Dental Diseases of the Ivory Cross.
