Doctors sound the alarm: vaping is dangerous

Doctors are very concerned about acute and very serious lung problems caused by vaping. At least five young Dutch people have escaped death in recent months after using a vape. They ended up in critical condition in hospital, four of them were in a coma for a long time, according to research by RTL News (as of May 8, 2025).

The risks of vaping are not limited to the lungs; oral health is also seriously compromised. Following recent reports of life-threatening lung problems in vapers, the Ivory Cross emphasises that e-cigarettes also have harmful effects on teeth, gums and the oral mucosa. Vaping disrupts the delicate balance of oral flora, increases the risk of caries and gum problems, and increases the chance of infections. This underlines the importance of including vaping as standard in the dental anamnesis.
