Annual Congress Ivory Cross 'Is caries a disease?'

Caries is one of the most common chronic diseases. However, a chronic lifestyle disease that can be prevented with the right diet and behavior.

The Annual Congress of the Ivoren Cross will take place this year on Saturday, April 1, 2023, we are guests at ACTA in Amsterdam. Prior to this, the annual General Meeting of the Ivoren Cross takes place (for members). Members of the Ivory Cross can participate in this day for free*.

How caries is viewed by society and the entire medical profession is important for coping with – and preventing – this lifestyle disease. During the congress 'Is caries a disease?' let us first of all be inspired by the speakers and then discuss it with each other.

During this day the following contributions are on the program:

  • Is caries a disease? Insights and misunderstandings', by Wil van der Sanden, Program Director Dentistry Radboud University Medical Center
  • 'Oral care coaches at consultation centers, what about it?', by Cor van Loveren, emeritus professor of preventive dentistry. Lea Kragt talks about the thesis 'from disparity to potential': nutritional and social determinants of oral health in children. And Lucy Smit, a youth doctor, gives her ideas about a dental care coach at the consultation office. Short presentations will be followed by a panel discussion.
  • Geert van der Heijden and Sehida Begovic from Acta will give a presentation about the research project 'Undesirable avoidance of dental care. Financial barriers to the accessibility of dental care.'
  • "Bariatric Surgery and Its Relation to Dentistry." by bariatric surgeon Yair Acherman
  • Caries in the Third World. Dental experiences through deployments to Kenya and Afghanistan.', by Frits van Kampen, lecturer in dentistry at the University of Groningen
  • Farewell to Onno Hofman. Onno Hofman has been the chairman of the Ivoren Cross since 2015.
